Christopher Frizzelle is the inventor and host of the Silent Reading Party, which happens in-person at Hotel Sorrento the first and third Wednesday of the month, and virtually on Zoom all other Wednesdays. He is also the curator and lecturer of the Quarantine Book Club. The fireplace above is at Point No Point, BC, and he’s reading short stories by Herman Melville.

We will read one or perhaps two stories each week. In addition, there will be an optional creative writing component. This club will be led by guest teacher Brian Bouldrey, a literature and creative writing professor at Northwestern.

It’s not too late to join the David Copperfield book club

We are reading Charles Dickens’s masterpiece at the same pace his readers originally read it in serialized form. When you join late, you get a recording of all the sessions you missed. .

Christopher Frizzelle has devoted his career to thinking innovatively about literary culture.

As a book critic at The Stranger beginning in 2003, he wrote a literary column called The Nightstand, and threw parties for writers like Jonathan Safran Foer and Zadie Smith in rock clubs like Neumos. He went on to be editor-in-chief of The Stranger from 2007 to 2016, where he transformed the features section. He edited a feature by Eli Sanders that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2012. He also hired and edited writers like Jen Graves, who was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize in 2014. He holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from Bennington College.
